Command and operation

Command and operation are separate. The BCP head gives the order. Operating the system is a right delegated to a named person — typically the BCP secretary or the Head of Risk — who must be activated before acting. Both the order and the operation are recorded.

Who may do it: the BCP head (and the alternate) delegates and activates; the operator operates once activated.

  1. Open Command and then Operators.
  2. Choose a named person from the staff register. The right is bound to that person, not to a position.
  3. Tap Activate. The operator is notified and can act at once.
  4. To end it early, tap Revoke.

An activation ends automatically after the number of hours your company sets when no incident is open. While an incident is open it stays in force until the incident is closed or the activation is revoked.

An incident runs in rounds. Start a new round when everyone should report again — for example each morning of a long incident. The command screen shows how many people have checked in in the current round.

Changing the form starts a new round.

  • No self-activation. Nobody can activate themselves.
  • Activated first. An operator’s act before activation, or after it ends, is refused.
  • Authenticator on every command screen. Command screens open only after the 6-digit code — see Signing in.
  • Both are recorded. Every activation, revocation, order and act is kept with who, when and on whose order.
